Title: Synchronicity
Characters: Doug Walker, Eugene Ziegler
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 1841
Notes: If you think you are noticing a certain trend in my revisiting of old characters, you’re absolutely right, and I’m a fucking sap who wants happy endings for all these people who used to live in my head. For a change, both these guys were only ever mine, so I know I’m writing both of them right, lol.

Title: Exercise
Characters: Doug Walker, Eugene Ziegler
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 540
Notes: [livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity 4/2: Write about waking up.

The alarm went off at 6:17 a.m., as it did every weekday. Doug fumbled to turn it off, as he did every weekday.

Title: Finding Common Ground
Characters: Doug Walker, Eugene Ziegler
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 3800
Notes: Combining two prompts for [livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity: January 6 (you're standing in the doorway) and January 11 (you're in a motel room). Second-person perspective, which sometimes I get the urge to write. Doug Walker again, this time back to his actual age.

You've been lonely for so long, it seems normal. Love is a faint memory that flits occasionally through your dreams and lasts as a dull, empty ache you've pushed to the lowest part of your mind, a space you try to bury under medication and forced optimism. You do a good job of it, too-- your students would never guess what's going on, and your friends, the few you have, only know if you tell them, and they've each got their own problems. Still, the ache sharpens more these days-- you're ten months away from fifty, your eyesight's deteriorating and your hair's gone grey, you're nobody's catch even if you played the market.

and your friends are all yentas )

Title: Tripping
Character: Doug Walker
Rating: PG-13 for drug use and a little bit of language.
Word count: 2039
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity, doubling up on prompts because I'm a cheater. January 7 and January 10. I did a little research for this one, and this is definitely an explanation of why Doug made some of the life choices he did. xD

Once, when no one was looking, Doug walked away from a family reunion, hearing something just on the edge of audible. He was eleven years old, and his cousins were either very much older-- fifteen and far too mature to want to talk to a kid like Doug-- or very much younger-- three and four year olds chasing each other around under the watchful eyes of aunts and mothers; with nothing else to do, and the echo of what might have been fairy music teasing his ears, he wandered away from his grandfather's farmhouse and followed the drums and the high, piercing voices through fields of corn higher than his head.
